Emissions house of the year: Vertis Environmental Finance

– 17 May 2024

Description

In 2024, Vertis Environmental Finance was honored as “Emissions House of the Year 2024” at the Energy Risk Awards, recognizing our integrated strength in research, advisory, and execution across carbon markets.

The award comes amid dramatic fluctuations in the EU Allowance (EUA) market. After peaking above €100/t in February 2023, EUA prices had fallen to around €52/t by February 2024, before rebounding to approximately €75/t by mid-April.

According to Stefan Feuchtinger, Head of Research & Analysis at Vertis, the decline in EUA prices has been driven in part by lower power prices reducing the clean dark spread for utilities, prompting hedges to be unwound, and by structural steps like the RePowerEU regulation, which will inject over 200 million additional allowances into the market in coming years.

We believe this recognition reflects not just past performance but also the evolving role of carbon markets in corporate strategy. In this blog entry, we’ll explore the key dynamics highlighted in the article, the strategic significance of this award for Vertis’s clients, and how the current trends in the EUA market should influence your approach to carbon risk and hedging.
