Chances for the UK staying in EU ETS until end of Phase 3 increasing
The European Commission proposed an after-Brexit transition period until 31 December 2020.
After the proposal of UK PM May earlier during the year, the European Commission suggested yesterday a transition period after Brexit that would end 31 December 2020. It seems now that there is a consensus between the UK and the EU to implement transitional agreements, which increases the likelihood that the UK remains in the EU ETS until the end of Phase 3. Also yesterday, the European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET) called on the EU and the UK to agree on an early and enduring solution to the future relationship of the UK to the EU ETS. EFET also urged the UK to provide a clear statement of support for the continued participation of the UK in the EU ETS after Brexit.
