2017 emissions increased in line with market expectations

Verified emissions of open installations in 2017 were 1.821bn, 1.1% higher than in 2016. Excluding aviation, the emissions grew by 1.0% to 1.756bn tones of CO2. Instalations wih the highest percentage in emission increase come from the power and cement sector.

Emissions in the aviation sector increased by 5.5% to 64.9m.

In our calculations, we assumed that the emissions of those open installations not reporting for 2017 remained at 2016 level. 

Emissions decreased by 3.0% in Germany, by 4.0% in the UK and increased by 5.6% in France. In Spain, emissions jumped by 10.4%, mainly because of higher fossil use in the lack of hydro.
